On June 2, Audi introduced its new 2017 A5, which builds on the massive success of the 2016 model.

The second generation A5 features exterior tweaks, including a redesigned front end more in keeping with Audi’s current design language, but the overall silhouette remains undeniably similar to the popular 2016 Audi A5.

The interior is strikingly reminiscent of the new 2017 A4, with additional space for passenger comfort, and a plethora of high-tech and luxury features, including a 12.4” dash mounted screen, Bang & Olufsen Sound System, and an optional configurable digital instrument cluster.

Other key features include 18” Audi Sport 10-spoke design wheels, S line competition plus bumpers with enlarged air intakes, gloss black S line side sills, S line emblems, and a rear diffuser with a spoiler. Inside, the A5 has a flat-bottom three-spoke multifunction sport steering wheel and leather seating with 10-way power front seats, plus 4-way power lumbar adjustment for the driver.

The new A5 utilizes the same MLB Evo platform currently employed in the A4 and Q7 models. Plans indicate European buyers will have access to their choice of five gas and diesel burning engines, and the US market will exclusively receive a 2.0-liter TFSI four-cylinder configuration rated at 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. All configurations will include front-wheel drive and a dual clutch automatic transmission as standard. All-wheel drive will be offered optionally at an additional cost. Fuel economy is rated at 23 mpg city / 32 mpg highway, an improvement over the prior model year. Field tests indicate speeds of 0-60 mph in 6.1 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph.

Look for Audi’s next offering to the market – a new S5 model with a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine with 354 horsepower, capable of reaching 60 mph in a scant 4.7 seconds in its top configuration.

The A5 coupe will be joined by a convertible model, a range topping variant RS 5, and a four-door model, the A5 Sportback, which will be available in the US for the first time.

Both the 2017 Audi A5 and S5 will be available at dealerships before year end, and pricing information is expected to be available soon. The very best from Audi is available at Audi Auto Gallery in Woodland Hills, CA. Subscribe to our newsletter for updates.
