Pagani Huayra BC Pays Tribute to the Brand’s First Customer

The Pagani Huayra BC is this automaker’s most technologically advanced car to date, and that’s fitting. It’s a car named after Benny Caiola, a personal friend and inspiration to Horacio Pagani.

Caiola believed in Pagani for the same reason as all of this brand’s customers. He was taken in by the passion, technology, and artistry of Horacio’s designs, and when the first Zonda went on sale in 1999, Benny was there to give the ultimate endorsement. He went on to own a total of 4 Pagani Zondas before passing away in 2010.

Naming the Huayra BC for Pagani’s first customer sends a message that this brand is dedicated to the satisfaction and the dreams of all customers.

Pagani Huayra BC Holds to Tradition of Innovation

It’s no secret that modern hypercars are embracing hybridization. Many of Pagani’s competitors have built cars that use electric motors to augment the performance of combustion engines.

Yet Pagani saw this trend and said, “No.”

There are other ways to innovate; ways that only Pagani has chosen to explore.

The Huayra BC outdoes its predecessor, and the specs prove it:

  • Engine: Mercedes-Benz AMG 5.98-L V12
  • Power: 750 hp
  • Torque: 811 lb.-ft.
  • Chassis: Pagani Carbo-titanium monocoque
  • Transmission: 7-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) with electronic mechanical differential
  • Suspension: 4-wheel independent double wishbone
  • Brakes: Brembo 4-wheel ventilated discs, carbon ceramic
  • Tires: Pirelli P Zero Corsa
  • Weight: 2685 lbs.

That last number is arguably the most significant. This car has been totally redesigned with lightness in mind, nearly 400 lbs. lighter than the original. The only body panel shared between the Huayra Coupé and the Huayra BC is the roof.

As a further example, the signature Pagani quad exhaust carries over from Coupé to BC. But while the pipes on the original Huayra weigh 22 lbs., those on the Huayra BC weigh just 6.4 lbs. This level of engineering is virtually unheard of, but it’s what you should expect from Pagani.

Developed from scratch in cooperation with Xtrac, the Huayra BC’s automated manual gearbox sets a new standard for transmissions of this type. Shifting in this car is faster and more precise than its predecessor, even with a substantial increase in torque. The new transmission is also 40% lighter than a dual-clutch transmission.

Pagani Achieves Aerodynamic Perfection, Inside and Out

Pagani is a master of aerodynamic design, and through its partnership with Dalara, the Huayra BC is able to achieve maximum downforce while still maintaining its identity. Countless hours of simulation and careful attention were given to developing the rear wing and the front splitter; however, Pagani is exceptionally proud of the car’s internal aerodynamics as well.

A car like the Huayra BC relies heavily on vents and intakes to cool the engine. In this case, Pagani has managed to design these inlets in a way that optimizes cooling while reducing drag to a minimum.

On the interior, Pagani believes less is more. Designed with racing intentions and built for the track, the Huayra BC features a suede leather steering wheel and black anthracite lining.
