As the lightest version of the 911 weighing in at only 3,020 pounds, the 911 R features maximum performance and an unfiltered driving experience. Porsche plans to make only 991 of these naturally aspirated cars with a manual gearbox with no option for a PDK automatic transmission.
The 2017 Porsche 911 R is a Nod to Its 1967 Predecessor
The interior remains true to the 1967 model with modern updates. Tartan cloth, also used in the original 1967 interior, covers carbon-fiber seat shells. With pull straps instead of door handles, solid black steering wheel, rear bench seating removed, and bespoke short gearshift level, enthusiasts will definitely notice references to the original model.
A revised infotainment system and instrument cluster feature a pop-up screen with the 911 R’s profile and badge, and an aluminum badge on the front passenger’s side will announce the limited number of the individual car.
The 911 R fuses elements of other models
While the 911 R and 911 GT3 RS share the same engine, chassis, front and rear bumpers, rear fenders, and wheels, the 911 R does not have a rear wing. A rear underbody diffuser specific to R models provides the necessary downforce.
The engine lid features a conventional grille and a retractable spoiler found on Carrera models. Owners can choose red or green racing stripes on the mid-section of the vehicle or even opt to go without, and Porsche decals are visible above the side skirts.
