Porsche will soon shift to producing all two-door sports cars at its headquarters following the third generation of the 718 Cayman sports coupe’s successful launch. The company will not make this change until mid-August, instead relying on its production abilities at the Volkswagen factory in Osnabruck in the meantime. All previous generations of the 718 Cayman were produced there. Albrecht Reimold, Executive Board Member for Production and Logistics at Porsche AG, commented on this, saying, “The production launch of the Cayman successor models was executed to our full satisfaction.” Albrecht also praised the production team and said that they handled the production launch ‘impeccably’.
This change will increase production at the Porsche headquarters to roughly 240 vehicles a day by August. Currently, the headquarters produces approximately 220 cars a day. Porsche manufactured 22,663 cars of the Boxster and Cayman models in business year 2015. Reimold was hopeful and stated: “After production had naturally declined based on the product life cycle, we now have a great deal of confidence in the new generation of our mid-engine sports cars.” This is not to say that the current generation of Cayman 718’s are not impressive, considering their specifications and no one is better equipped to sell you those vehicles than Woodland Hills Porsche.
